Privacy Policy

Creel (“we,” “us”) is a personal fishing companion. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email bluapps.outreach@gmail.com.

Information we collect

  • Account: your email address and a securely hashed password, so you can sign in and keep your data.
  • Your content: catches you log (species, size, notes, and later photos), fishing spots you save, and gear/setups you record.
  • Location you enter: the ZIP code or town you set as your area, and coordinates for spots you save, used to show nearby fish, weather, and maps.
  • Basic usage/diagnostic data: standard logs your browser or device sends (such as IP address) used to operate and secure the service.

How we use it

To provide the app: authenticate you, store your catches and spots, and generate recommendations from public weather and species data based on the area you provide. We do not sell your personal information.

Third-party services

We rely on a few providers to run Creel. Your area coordinates or search terms may be sent to these to fetch results:

  • Supabase — account, database, and authentication hosting.
  • Netlify — website hosting.
  • PostHog — product analytics (see below).
  • Resend — sending account emails (e.g., confirmation).
  • iNaturalist — community fish observations and photos near you.
  • NOAA / National Weather Service — weather conditions.
  • OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, Zippopotam, Nominatim — maps and geocoding.

If we add advertising in the mobile app, ad partners (such as Google AdMob) may collect device identifiers to show ads; we'll update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent.

Analytics & cookies

We use PostHog to understand how Creel is used — which pages people visit, and where they get stuck. It sets cookies in your browser to recognize a return visit, and records the pages you view, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your browser and device type.

We do not send it the contents of your catches, your saved spots, or their coordinates, and we do not link this usage data to your Creel account. It is collected against an anonymous ID stored in your browser — not your email address or user ID — so it cannot be traced back to you or your account.

Most browsers let you block or clear cookies, and browser “do not track” and ad-blocking tools will stop this collection entirely. Creel works exactly the same either way.

Your choices & rights

  • Edit or delete individual catches and spots at any time.
  • Delete your account and all associated data. See how to delete your account. This is permanent.
  • Request a copy of your data by emailing us.

Data retention & security

We keep your data until you delete it or your account. Data is protected with encryption in transit and row-level access controls so you can only access your own records. No method is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect it.

Children

Creel isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
